Cefn Hengoed Community School was opened by Alice Bacon MP, Minister of State at the Department of Education and Science in 1968 to serve the needs of the community on the east side of Swansea. It was built high on the hill in the Bonymaen and Winchwen area. This year we will be marking the 50th Anniversary of our much loved school through a series of whole school events. Details of these will be posted on this website throughout the academic year.

The school’s most recent inspection took place in October 2015. Estyn judged the school’s current performance as ‘Excellent’ and the school’s prospects for improvement as ‘Excellent’. Furthermore, the school was awarded the top grade of ‘Excellent’ for all 3 Key Questions and all 15 judgements.

As Headteacher, my aim is to build firmly on the legacy of my predecessors and ensure this school remains one of the very best. This will include continuing to work closely with the community whose support and participation have helped make the school what it is today. It is imperative the name Cefn Hengoed continues to be synonymous with educational achievement and success.

Our school motto:

‘If you believe it, you can achieve it’

This motto underpins all we do at Cefn Hengoed Community School. We firmly believe that every pupil can be successful. Through strong academic and pastoral support we provide a safe and respectful environment for all. Our curriculum is fully inclusive and provides a wide range of opportunities for every individual learner. Furthermore, we believe strongly in developing the creativity of individuals by embracing new and emerging technology, providing opportunities for individual and collective talent to shine both within and beyond the curriculum. Achievements of all kinds are valued and celebrated.

This website contains information about our school, for parents, pupils and visitors. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
